Whether you can’t get enough of them or don’t understand why anyone would waste their time just to save a bit of money, you can’t deny Groupon’s explosive growth.

It’s hard to believe this company was just launched in November of 2008. Since then, they have become the 304th most visited website on the Internet according to Alexa. What’s even more impressive is the company’s revenue for 2010 was $760 million. This is incredible growth given their 2009 revenue was $33 million. This has lead the company to increase its staff to more than 400 writers and editors.

One of the reasons the company has grown so quickly is because of its aggressive advertising. Groupon has spent a huge amount of money buying Google’s AdSense ads. The company recently took their advertising to the next level.

Groupon ran multiple commercials during the 2011 Super Bowl. One of these commercials featured the beautiful Elizabeth Hurley. Here’s her commercial:

The commercial begins with Hurley’s voice saying, “The Brazilian rainforest, one of nature’s most lush ecosystems.” Liz then comes on screen with the rainforest behind her.

She continues, “Hi, I’m Elizabeth Hurley. The rainforest is irreplaceable. Yet rampant deforestation is threatening this natural treasure.”

The commercial then takes a playful turn. The camera switches to a shot of Hurley in a robe. She says, “But not all deforestation is bad. And since 100 of us bought at Groupon.com, we’re all saving 50% on a Brazilian wax at Completely Bare in New York City.”

While one of Groupon’s Super Bowl commercials was deemed quite controversial, this one seemed to go over much more smoothly.
